Kazak rugs are a type of Armenian rug that were woven in the south of Caucasus, between Tiflis and Erevan. They are not associated with any particular tribe, but with the geographical areas in which they were made. The Kazak rugs were hand-knotted for the very best quality and were generally made by the women of the communities. Since Armenians are among the first people to have woven Oriental rugs, theirs is a skill that has been passed down since 5th century BC. As such, you can rest assured that Kazak rugs are of the highest possible quality and craftsmanship, considering the Armenians have been practicing their craft for more than years. The Kazak rugs are known for their large-scale patterns, their contrasting colours, and the presence of numerous medallions. There are three types of Kazak rugs, each of which were made in a different geographical area. Bordjalou Kazak rugs were made in a district that lies to the south of Tiflis. These rugs were coarsely woven and were simple in design, generally of the colours red, blue, ivory, and brown. The Kazak rugs from an area south of Bordjalou and north of Erevan are large area rugs that have a shorter pile and have more formal designs. The rugs from Erevan and southeast of Erevan are usually made longer and thinner, like runner rugs, and display more simple designs. These rugs generally feature less ivory and more reds and blues. Traditionally, Kazak rugs and other Armenian rugs were a sign of one’s status. They were placed in the homes of the rich, in palaces, and in churches. They hung on walls, were placed on floors, and were even placed on the throne of the king or at his feet. These special rugs were often woven with strands of silver and gold. Armenians and non-Armenians would commonly dine on the rugs and sometimes these rugs were even demanded as part of the tax owed to the kings, emperors, princes, and other nobility that ruled over the Armenians. The Kazak rugs and other Armenian rugs were considered luxuries indeed. -condition: original, some age wear, one stain, -circa: , -size: 4.2' x cm x 279cm), -material: wool, -country of origin: Russia, -style: Kazak, -background colours: white, red, blue, turquoise, yellow.

Tapis ancien Chinois Art Deco fait main  Français -condition: bon originale -date approximative: , -taille: 128cm x 213cm -matière: Laine, -pays d' origine: Chine, -style: Art Deco, -couleurs: bordeaux clair, bordeaux foncé, bleu marine, jaune.   English Antique Art Deco Chinese rug in original condition. This rug has very unusual design. it is divided on two areas: smaller is in navy blue shade with geometric design. Larger area is in burgundy colour and has floral decorative design. The border is in deep burgundy. The rug is in original good condition.  Art Deco Rugs - The Deco period was an international design movement from 's to 's. It produced a mix of many different styles borrowing design influences from neoclassical, constructivism, cubism, modernism and art nouveau. The Art Deco movement led to the evolution of the carpet revolution. Antique carpets made before the 's, especially the more refined oriental carpets, did not compliment the modern decor and Art Deco furnishings. A new style was taking shape that reflected this movement. Carpet design evolved from floral to angular elegance with modern, abstract and figurative motifs. The color palate is both bold and muted with interesting juxtapositions of light and dark. The design is frequently spare, geometric, and architectural with a luxurious feel. Such characteristics come together to create the aesthetics of a large swath of vintage rugs. Such legendary artists as Picasso, Poiret, Gray, Delaunay, Klee, Paul and Dorn shaped this evolution. Paule Leleu the daughter of Jules Leleu of the famed House of Leleu was a talented creator whose vision also contributed to these highly collectible rugs. In the rug trade, term Art Deco or Deco (for short) applies to European and certain Chinese carpets that reflect the new movements in modern European decorative arts during the first third of the twentieth century. Art Deco Rugs are characterized by experimentation with bold colors, angular lines, and the omission of heavy ornamentation. Over the past few years, the demand for art deco rugs and art deco carpets has grown tremendously. Partly fueled by the revival of mid-century modernist interior design trends, Art deco rugs come from various regions in Europe but some of the most coveted pieces are the art deco carpets or rugs that were made in France, China and Scandinavia (which are really mid-century modern but when it comes to interior design the term art deco does fit in well). Since a rug need to be 80 years old or older to be called antique, in only a few more years, the art deco vintage rug could be be referred to as Antique Art Deco rugs. -condition: original good, -circa: , -size: 4.2' x cm x 213cm), -material: wool, -country of origin: China, -style: Art Deco, -background colours: light burgundy, deep burgundy, navy blue, yellow.

English Antique handmade Caucasian Shirvan rug in good condition. This rug has been made in Azerbaijan. Very interesting narrow central area made in bright red shade. The tribal design in orange, beige and blue decorating it. The wide navy blue border surrounding the central area and also decorated in tribal ornaments. The rug has been restored and now in good condition. Shirvan rugs - The historic Khanate or administrative district of Shirvan produced many highly decorative antique rugs that have a formality and stylistic complexity that is found in few rugs from the Caucasus. The depth of colors, the complexity of the composition and the phenomenal patterns featured in antique Shirvan rugs set them apart from those produced in other regions of the Caucasus. Shirvan, which is part of modern-day Azerbaijan, was populated by Azeri Turks and some Armenians, who were expert dyers and weavers. The format is generally long and narrow, which would have been preferred by consumers in the Caucasus. This format lends itself well to multi-medallion compositions. Grand symbol-filled medallions with polychrome accents are featured prominently as are all-over Afshan patterns, which are a sort of angular arabesque filled with dramatic harshang palmettes. Stunning allover patterns featuring symbolic devices and a latticework of angular floral sprigs are also used. Fine prayer rugs with angular mihrabs are made in the area as well. Rugs from the Shirvan region include those produced in Marasali, Bakuand other local cities and villages with the largest carpets coming from Baku. Regardless of the format or the patterns featured, antique Shirvan carpets are full of strong colors, powerful symbols and subtle details that add to their stylistic richness. Shirvan rugs are often the most sought after antique rugs from the Caucasus. Shirvan rugs were made not far from those of Kuba, which are closely related in terms of design and coloration. But Shirvans tend to be distinguished by a larger, more supple weave. They also leaned more to medallion designs, while Kubas relied more on allover patterns. Still, Shirvan rugs and Kubas constitute something of a contrast to the bolder more graphic quality of South Caucasian rugs like Kazaks andKarabaghs. Instead they are more finely detailed, relying on precise articulations of form as well as the effects of rich color. -condition: good, restored, -circa: , -size: 4.4' x cm x 271cm), -material: wool, -country of origin: Azerbaijan, -style: Shirvan, -background colours: navy blue, blue, beige, orange, bright red, white.

Tapis ancien Persan Sultanabad fait main Français -bon état, restauré, -date approximative: , -taille: 303cm x 396cm, -matière: laine, -pays d' origine: Perse, -style: Sultanabad, -couleurs: beige, rouge, bleu ciel, bleu nuit, vert olive. English Hand made antique Sultanabaad rug in original condition. The rug has very deep red color on the background and paisley design motif on the field and on the beige border. The colors combines very well with each other and creates very schick look. The rug was restored and now in good condition. No holes, stains or oddor. The city of Sultanabaad (now known as Arak) was founded in to become the major center of rug production in Persia. Sultanabad carpets are distinguished as the highest quality of Mahal productions manufactured in the Arak region. Other types of Sultanabad designs may include production from Mushkabaad. Ferahaans and Surouuks were also made in the Arak region, though are wholly different. Beginning in the second half of the nineteenth century, a large increase in demand for Persian rugs by Western consumers transformed a millennia old art form. During the late 19th century, in , the Manchester, England, based Anglo-Swiss firm of Ziegler & Co. established a manufactory, the sole objective of which was to produce Sultanabad rugs to meet western tastes and demands. Western designers modified classical Persian designs, marking the first time westerners directly affected Persian designs (beyond influence through market demand). In step with the beginning of the Arts and Crafts Movement, Ziegler modified designs to be larger size, along with a larger rug size to suit western room specifications. Arak's palette changed, as colors were softened in an effort to appeal to housewives of Europe and America. Most similar to the Sultanabads are Heeriiz and Seeraapi rugs; this similarity being attributed to the magnificent graphic character of the designs. Yet within this similarity, the line work of the Heeriiz/Seerapiis is always more curvilinear and classical. Sultanabads share with Persian rugs all-over designs of palmettes and vinescrolls, but as they use a larger, suppler weave, the Sultanabad designs tend to be larger as well. The most popular color of the Sultanabad repertoire was a deep rose red. The red dye was created by bathing wool for two days in madder and whey after which it was scoured for nearly another two days with running water. -condition: restored, good, -circa: , -size: 9.10' x cm x 396cm), -material: wool, -country of origin: Persia, -style: Sultanabad, -background colors: beige, red, sky blue, night blue, olive green. The rug was made in very interesting shades from brick red to yellowish. Abrashes are all over the rug. The beautiful repeating geometric pattern decorating the rug. Wonderful border with tribal ornament. The rug is in original good condition, there no holes or stains on it. Baluch rugs are hand knotted rugs that are woven in the wider area of Baluchistan, which covers the South Eastern Province of Baluchistan of Iran, South west of Afghanistan, and East of Pakistan, near the Borders of the three countries. Baluchi rugs are tribal by nature and are initially made to be used inside tribal tents, which are often mobile and move from one place to another. Therefore as a matter of practicality they are produced in smaller sizes, the most common of them around 3x4', 4x6' and they are usually limited to less than 8 feet in length. Pile rugs in general are made from a mix of wool and cotton, in which cotton is used as the base of the rugs and wool form the pile. In Baluch rugs, unlike most other types of rugs, even the foundation of the rug is made of wool. The wool used in Baluchi rugs are normally hand spun and, until very recently, Baluch rugs have been using natural and vegetable dyes. These rugs are known for their resilience. However, due to the type of materials used and the circumstances the knot density in Baluchi rugs are lower than most hand knotted rugs. Baluchi rugs are often woven with geometric motifs and tribal designs, most of them using darker colors which is consistent for the environment in which they are used. -condition: original good, -circa: , -size: 3' x 5' (92cm x 155cm), -material: wool, -country of origin: Afghanistan, -style: Baluch, -background colours: chocolate brown, brick red, yellow, orange, burgundy.

English Antique collectible Turkoman Engsi rug in original condition. The rug has traditional Engsi design with cross in the middle. The rug made in bright red colors with some beige, orange and blue accents. The condition is fair for the age, original. There no stains or holes on the rug. An engsi (also referred to as ensi or hatchlu) is the name of a small rug that was originally used as door of the turkmen tent, the yurt. It seems a large proportion of the engsis on the market have never seen use as door cover. Even in the 19th century, many were made by the women of nomadic or sedentary Turkmen tribes as valuable tradeable items. The engsi has the typical quartered design: the field is divided into four panels by a vertical bar panel overlapped by a central horizontal bar. The vertical central bar panel leads to a single arch with a slanted roof at the top end. While the arch has obvious similarities to the mirhab in prayer rugs, opinion seems to converge that engsis were not used for prayer. This engsi is typical for the production at the end of the 19th century, though small individual details (such as the use of goat hair in the warps and the charming miniaturisation of the geometric border elements at one point in the right border) indicate that this rug is not the result of some organised manufacturing process. The arrays of the candlebra device in the four field panels can provide a clue as to the age. Earlier pieces like this one have an unequal number of candelabras in adjacent rows, with the candlebras staggered vertically rather than arrayed neatly in columns. The rug has a wide ashik (ashyk) border, the elem (pile skirt) shows a repeating geometric star ornament. -condition: original, some age wear, -circa: , -size: 4' x cm x 165cm), -material: wool, -country of origin: Turkmenistan, -style: Engsi, -background colors: red, beige, orange, blue. In , the Venetian merchant traveler and explorer Marco Polowas the first European writer to mention Anatolian carpets, specifically mentioning the "Beautiful rugs of Konya and Karaman". Most pile rugs from Anatolia utilize the symmetrical ghiordesdouble knot or "Turkish knot". Each knot is made on two warps. With this form of knotting, each end of the pile thread is wrapped all the way around the two warps, pulled down and cut, creating a stronger rug than the much more typical asymmetrical single knotsenneh or "Persian knot". Rugs have been woven in Anatolia since before the 13th century. The all over dark blue field surrounded by the decorative beige border with floral design. The condition is good for the age, it has some coloration.
