Very fine black silk ribbon work rosettes surround the brim, black silk chiffon is also used in suaves around the crown. A black hat pin of the period sits to the back (included in sale). A very long fine veil (perfect) is thrown over the whole hat, this was used during mourning. The hat is all hand sewn and is beautifully crafted. This is a very rare collectors piece or museum piece. Here is something rare and special. A beautifully made early s tilt hat, and being made of pure silk this is a very rare survivor. Made in fine blue and white check silk with a tall crown and drop brim. An incredible red rose made completely of feathers sits to the front (see close up image). The shaping is beautiful and the look very feminine. The hat is wearable but the silk is fragile and care would be needed. There are signs of age as you would expect with a hat of this kind but overall it is lovely and wears and displays to great effect.
